CECILIA SILIANSKY DE ANDREAZZI
Principal investigator and project coordinator
I am currently a researcher at the Evolution and Conservation Biology Research Group of the Complutense University of Madrid and member of the Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (IOC/FIOCRUZ), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. My interests and experience are focused on the ecological and evolutionary dynamics of species interaction networks and infectious disease dynamics. For that, I combine empirical data, mathematical modeling and tools derived from network science. My research lies at the intersection of community and ecosystem ecology, evolutionary biology, epidemiology and conservation biology. I am particularly interested in understanding the effects of biodiversity loss and environmental disturbance on community structure, ecosystem function and human health across spatial and temporal scales.

I am a biologist and ecologist, with diverse research interests primarily centered around Ecology and Conservation, intricately connected to the One Health approach. Consequently, my research encompasses various avenues, including: (1) exploring the impact of the environment, whether in its natural state or altered, on biodiversity—encompassing species, functions, phylogeny, and physiology—and delving into its intricate interplay with human and socioecological dimensions; and (2) unraveling the mechanisms governing the occurrence and coexistence of species, investigating both the how and why behind their specific habitats. This interdisciplinary perspective underscores the vital intersection between ecology and public health, emphasizing the intricate web of connections between the health of ecosystems and that of human populations.

I am an ecologist and quantitative biologist. My research interests have always focused on the ecology of host-parasite interactions. Throughout my career, I have studied the mechanisms and patterns behind parasite distribution and diversity at the community level, integrating the metacommunity framework, ecological network analysis, and ecological models. My current work focuses on exploring how eco-evolutionary dynamics shape the probability of parasite spillover in a landscape undergoing constant change.
Gabriella L. Tabet Cruz
Associated Researcher
I am a bachelor in Biological Sciences with an emphasis on Ecology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2017). Environmental Specialist from COPPE|UFRJ (2019). Master in Biodiversity and Health from the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC-Fiocruz; 2023). Currently, I'm applying for the doctorate course. I am interested in manipulating and structuring biological databases, and in the use of multi-criteria analysis tools and those derived from the study of networks to extract information that integrates ecological, environmental, and health knowledge.
